Ujjala Majumdar (1914-1992)

logo Ujjwala Majumdar (November 21, 1914 – April 25, 1992) was a Bengali armed revolutionary woman, far-left leader, and social activist. Majumdar joined the Bengal Volunteers at an early age. She later joined another pro-independence institution called Adipali Sangh, and another organization, Yugantar Dal, which strove for independence. She later became a leader of the Forward Bloc core team. Majumdar studied inside the jail and obtained a BA. After her release, she participated in various public welfare activities. She went to areas affected by the Noakhali riots and contributed to the relief work. Majumdar established an institution called Palli Niketan for the development of the deprived classes near Barasat. She was engaged in social work for several villages that lay under the jurisdiction of the Rajarhat police station. In 1947, she married Rakshita Roy, a revolutionary and literary figure of Bhupendra Kishore.

Ujjala was born in Dhaka. She was extraordinary courageous girl. She believed in armed struggle for freedom movement and joined in Bengal Volunteers in 1930.She along with Manoranjan Banerjee, Bhavani Bhattacharya, and Rabi Roy went to Darjeeling for assassination of the tyrannical Governor Anderson. They took a revolver inside the box of a harmonium. The Governor came to witness the horse race in Lebong Race ground on 8th May, 1934. Bhavani Bhattacharya and Rabi Roy tried to assassinate the Governor but failed. The police tried to arrest Ujjala from Siliguri train but was not successful.Lastly they arrested her from the house of Sovarani Datta, a member of the Bhawanipur Jugantar Dal.In the trial she got a punishment of 20years RI which was decreased by 6 years after appeal petition in the high court. At the initiative of Gandhiji she was released in 1939 from Dhaka jail.As a security measure she was kept in Presidency jail in the August movement of 1942.She was released on Feb 1946. After being free  she with her associates formed Forward Bloc. She went to Noakhali for relief work in riot affected people. She joined Socialist Republican Party of Sarat Chandra Bose. She devoted herself in the service of "Palli Niketan", a social organisation of Barasat founded by her. She was married with the litterateur and revolutionary Bhupendra Kishore Rakshit.Roy.


Nikunja Sen (1906-1986)

logo Nikunja Sen (1906-1986) was born in Dhaka in !906.He , in his student life, joined in secret revolutionary Samity, "Mukti Sangha" of Hemchandra Ghosh and later he joined in Bengal Volunteers. He was sent to Coomillah for assisting Lalit Barman  to form a strong organisation.With the help of this Lalit Barman, Santisudha Ghosh and Suniti Choudhury assassinated the magistrate of Coomillah.He was also closely linked with Binoy, Badal and Dinesh.He had important role in framing the plan and preparation of the Corridor Battle of Writer's Building in 1930. He was in underground at this time.He was arrested in 1931 and was imprisoned for 7 years.He was also confined in the WWII during 1940-46.He, then, took the responsibility of organising Forward Bloc.Then he joined the Socialist Republican Party formed by Sarat Chandra Bose and took  the responsibility of editing its mouth npiece "Mahajati" His important works Jailkhana Karagar, Baxer par Deuli, Netaji O Marxbad. He was a headmaster of Bagu high school, North 24 prgs

SHIKHARPUR JR. HIGH SCHOOL is  a state Government Aided School under WEST BENGAL SCHOOL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT , in the district North24Parganas,W.B.,India.It is located at village Shikharpur, beside the" PALLI NIKETAN"  where once upon a time great Freedom fighter respected NIKUNJA SEN used to live during the period of freedom struggle.


Major Satya Bhushan Gupta

logo Subhas Chandra Bose organised a group of volunteers during the 1928 Kolkata session of Indian National Congress. The group was named Bengal Volunteers Corps and was under the leadership of Major Satya Gupta. Subhas Chandra Bose himself was the GOC.[5] After the Calcutta session of the Congress was over, the Bengal Volunteers continued its activities, under the guidance of Satya Gupta,  and was turned into an active revolutionary association.

Major Satya Gupta was born in Dhaka. He was an M.A.He became member of the revolutionary group formed by Hemchandra Ghosh. After the instruction of the group his working place was shifted to Calcutta in 1927. At this time he was introduced with Subhas Chandra and Sarat chandraBasu. He was the main assistantof Subhas Chandra , the GOC of Calcutta Congress in 1928. From this time Bengal Volunteers (B.V) was formed as a revolutionary organisation. He was elected as a Major of the group. He was arrested in 1930 and was released After the attack of Writers' Building on 8.12.1930 he was arrested and remained as state prison from 1930-38.He was released from Hijli Jail and worked as an assistant of Subhas Chandra bose. he became state prisoner again from 1941-46. He devoted himself as a social worker in 24-Parganas.


Bhakta Kumar Ghosh (1914-1984)

Bhakta Kumar Ghosh was born in Jalpaiguri.He was a student of Mitra Institution, Kolkata. At an early age he came in contact with commander-in-chief of Bengal Volunteers, Hem Chandra Ghosh and joined in secret revolutionary organisation. After the assassination of oppressive magistrate Burge, Police arrested him and his sister Sushila but released after some time. One of his brother suffered life in prison for joining revolutionary activities. He established a "Biplabi Niketan" in 1968 for the shelter old revolutionaries.  


Jyotish Chandra Joardar (1905-1983)

Jyotish Chandra Joardar was a revolutionary in the revolutionary age.He entered politics while he was a student. He was close follower of Subhas Chandra Bose. and one of the leader of F0rward Bloc. He was imprisoned for long period.


Major Satya Gupta

Born Sudhir Gupta in the village of Purba Shimulia (East Shimulia), in Dhaka’s Bikrampur region, Badal Gupta was inspired by Nikunja Sen, who taught at the Banaripara School of Bikrampur. He joined the Bengal Volunteers as a member, and found his calling in revolutionary activities.
The Bengal Volunteers, organised by Subhash Chandra Bose, came into being during the 1928 Kolkata session of the Indian National Congress. Led by Major Satya Gupta, the group continued its activities even after the Kolkata session of Congress ended.
